maya the amazing

It has long been on my to-do list to photograph the incredible Maya, and this month I finally had the opportunity to make it happen. Maya’s roots are local through Kanopy Dance, yet as a New York City–based artist she has performed with prestigious companies such as Alvin Ailey II and has been featured in Dance Magazine. Though our session was shorter than I’d hoped, it was an exceptional experience—photographing a dancer whose keen knowledge to technique, lines, and artistry was so insightful. These photos aren’t my usual chiaroscuro style, but their bright, almost high-key look is striking in a different way. Many thanks, Maya!! Hope to collaborate with you again!
